In the interest of the safety, comfort, and more opportunities for the children we care for at our orphanage, we propose the construction of a hostel to make new space for the girls as well as for our international volunteers.
We have now finished landscaping the area and will begin construction soon. New photos of the progress made are coming soon...be sure to keep checking. But for now, check out the pictures of the landscaping and wedding fundraiser. We even have the concrete for our construction ready.

Wedding Fundraiser:
On the 17th of July, we celebrated the mock wedding of Jake Brass (our 2022 Project Trust volunteer) and Bahasi community member Hilda. This mock wedding was a fun, exciting and communal event to help raise funds the planned expansion of Bahasi. We currently have more children than beds and even less space in our current hostel; this new hostel is necessary for the future development and prosperity of the OVC program ran at Bahasi.
This wedding was a wonderful start to the fundraising campaign. With the help of the Bangwe community, in particular we are thankful to: MK 25000 from Bangwe Police Officers, MK 20000 from the Officer In Charge, MK 10000 and the wedding tent from Donnatta Kamwendo, MK 5000 from the chief of Wisiki Village and MK 100,000 from Alima Amini; we manage to raise an amazing MK 225,000 which will allow us to start landscaping the area and demolish the unstable and non-sustainable building that stands. We are excited to start this project because of what this will mean for the future of Bahasi.
The wedding event was an enthralling gathering of our community here in Bangwe. We had fantastic music and dancing from the outset and throughout including a fantastically rehearsed dance from a company (which including some of our OVC’s) as well as an entertaining aisle walk from the mock couple. This was followed by dancing whilst giving generous donations. It was lovely to see the Bahasi children helping to collect the money, dancing and having a fun time. A thanks to all those who helped organise the event, especially Isaac Ligola: Bahasi’s director, without whom the event could not have been possible. The attention to detail: the marriage tent, the flowers thrown on the couple, the huge speakers, and the dancing company, it was a spectacle not seen before.
We aim to fundraise MK 8,436,700 (around $8,500) to complete this project. See our estimated and quoted costs below.
